Our Story
The Chowan River Rescue Alliance (CRRA) was born out of necessity and a deep desire to serve our community. Founded in 2025 by local volunteer firefighters and experienced recreational divers, we saw a need that was too urgent to ignore. The Chowan River and its blackwater tributaries have claimed too many lives and left too many families without answers. We exist to change that narrative
We are an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit (application pending) dedicated to providing rapid, professional, no-cost underwater search, rescue, and recovery services. Our mission is to ensure that no life, evidence, or loved one is ever left behind beneath the dark waters of northeastern North Carolina. We are the Chowan River Rescue Alliance, where “The River Never Sleeps”.

We respond 24/7/365 at the request of law enforcement, fire/rescue agencies, and families.
Rescue & Recovery
We conduct live rescues and dignified recoveries, offering closure when it’s the only thing left.

We train to the highest public-safety standards and educate our community about water safety.
